First Time Homeowners – How to Pick Out Homeowners Insurance

September 2nd, 2010 by Thomas Tillman

First Time Home Buyers And Homeowners Insurance Policies

If you are one of the great number of new home owners, you probably have found that purchasing a home is a complex process. First you had to shop for a home. Then you probably had to qualify for a mortgage. And now that you are living in your new house, you know you need to pick out homeowners insurance. If you are still looking for the right home to purchase, now is the time to start shopping around for a policy to protect it.

Why Do We Need Homeowners Insurance?

You need homeowners insurance for a couple of major reasons. This first reason is that your lender probably requires it. They want to make sure that the large asset you are using to secure a large loan is totally protected. Your insurer does not want the value of the home reduced because you cannot afford to fix some major damage.

The second, and even better reason, is simply that your home is probably your largest asset. You want to make sure that it is protected in case of damage. So you know you need homeowners insurance to protect yourself, and to secure a mortgage.

Affordable Homeowners Insurance Premiums

One of the first things you may have realized is that with your coverage, you have probably picked up another bill. If you are still shopping for a new home, you should consider the cost of a policy when you calculate how much your home will actually cost you! You cannot just compare the monthly mortgage payments to your old rent payments.

At first glance, it may seem like the mortgage is much cheaper than the rent was. But if you own your home, you will need to pay.property taxes and home owners insurance premiums. This will probably shift the balance quite a bit. It is true that renters carry insurance too, but renters policies are usually a lot cheaper than actual owners policies. Make sure that you are comparing all the costs of home ownership when you figure out your new budget.

So while you are shopping, it may be time to get some insurance quotes for each of the houses you are interested in. If one home is much cheaper to insure than another, that may affect your decision because you will probably be making monthly premium payments as long as you own your home.

How To Compare Home Insurance Quotes

In the past, it would have been time consuming and tedious to compare quotes for every house you were interested in buying. It would have met calling multiple insurers for every quote. Some people did not bother because it seemed too difficult. But these days, the internet has made this whole process a lot easier.

You can find free online quote forms. You only have to enter your information in one time, and they will give your quotes and policies from multiple insurers that do business in your area. This saves time, and in the long run it should save you money.

Shoes You Need for Summer Holiday

September 2nd, 2010 by Thomas Tillman

Summer is always a good season for people doing various activities. They might go to the beach, working out in the park, playing tennis with friends, and other more activities which are fun and make them good.

For all good activities you going to do during that time, you need footwear to help you mobile. To make you feel good there are things you must consider when buying footwear.

First, you have to see where your direction is. Are you going to the beach or tennis court or other place?

Okay, since you know your direction is to the beach, you have to prepare water sandal. You will look gorgeous with your swimsuit on when wearing water sandal. There are few colors of water sandal; you can just pick which match with your swimsuit.

Water sandal can also be worn during rafting and kayaking. Also great for the shower, for rainy days, and can be used to protect your feet when swimming, diving, or beach walking. This water sandal is soft plastic sandals with heel straps for boating. Good ones can be reasonably comfortable and will last for quite a while.

Don’t ruin it by wearing socks or nylons with sandals. Most sandals are designed to be worn barefoot, so they won’t fit as well with hosiery. You just relax with your water sandals and don’t try to add something because it will looks wired.

You got your beach footwear; now let’s check your tennis shoes. Some refer to tennis shoes as a substitute term for sneakers or athletic shoes. Although tennis shoes are types of sneakers or types of athletic shoes, they are not the same. Tennis shoes were developed specifically for tennis, but have developed a more general appeal.

Tennis shoe brands most commonly include Puma, Adidas, Diadora, K-Swiss, New Balance, Nike, Prince, Reebok, Wilson etc. The type of tennis shoe that you choose should depend on the playing level you are in. The best players look for brands that extend support and stability.

If you are a hard core player, try to choose that has a molded plastic torsion bar that extends from the outsole to the lateral side of the upper. This prevents feet from rolling over when players stretch for a shot.

And if you want more recreational tennis shoes for lifestyle shoe, you need tennis shoes that offer flexibility and comfort, with a hint of style. The upper is a combination of mesh and suede, while the midsole and outsole are both polyurethane.

There are other more shoes for your summer holiday; it’s your choice where your direction is. So, start by knowing where you go, enjoy!

How to Choose the Right Running Shoe – Understanding Pronation and Shock Absorption

September 2nd, 2010 by Thomas Tillman

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Do you need a shoe that cushions your foot or one that supports it?

If you want to select the right running shoe for you, the first concept you need to be familiar with is pronation.

Each time you hit your foot on the ground, either by running, jumping or simply walking, you apply a force to the ground. As we know from Newton’s laws of Motion, the ground will respond by applying an equal and opposite force upwards towards you. This force is what propels your foot up and forward. This force is what makes you run.

The issue is that when you run, you apply a force that can be as high as 8 times your body-weight. This force then gets back to you through your foot, ankle, knee and hips. Not differently than a car, your body has natural suspensions to help you absorb the shock. The basis of this natural suspension system is a process called pronation.

Pronation is the natural rolling of your foot inwards during the running (or walking) gait. The arch of your foot collapses towards the floor in order to absorb the impact.

Pronation is part of the natural bio-mechanics of your gait, and is there to protect you from injuries.

Problems (injuries) can occur when you either pronate or supinate too much. Returning to the car suspensions analogy, problems happen when your suspensions are either too stiff or too soft.

Given this premise, we can differentiate three different conditions:

* Neutral Pronation when the foot naturally rolls inwards during the heel-to-toe transition of the gait. 20-30% of runners are neutral pronators.

* Over Pronation when the foot rolls excessively inwards and the arch collapses in a way that is detrimental to right shock absorption.

* Under Pronation (or Supination) when the foot does not roll inwards enough during the running gait, leading to insufficient shock absorption.

Knowing if you are a neutral, over or underpronator is the first step towards choosing the best running shoe for you.

Good Sprinting Technique – Proper Sprinting Mechanics For Foot Plant

August 31st, 2010 by Thomas Tillman

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you want to run faster times on the track it is very important to have good sprinting technique. Unfortunately many sprinters were not told the exact sprinting techniques that they needed to know in order to run ridiculously quick times. There are many aspects to having good sprinting technique. One of which is having proper foot plant.

There are many scientific journals available online that discusses the proper sprinting mechanics for foot plant. Many of them make learning the proper technique for foot plant difficult to learn. However, I will break it down to simple easy to learn steps so that you can begin implementing them right away.

1. Your heel should never land first while you are sprinting. The heel first landing is mainly for distance runners and cross country running. In a sprint your goal should be to spend as little time as possible on the ground. And having your heels land first will unfortunately result in you running slower than expected times while sprinting. So while you are sprinting down the track your goal should be to land on the balls of your feet. The balls of your feet is that pad that is right behind your toes.

A lot of times you might have heard that you should be running on your toes. This is a misconception that should be avoided at all costs. In fact running on your tip toes will cause a breaking effect while sprinting. You want to be moving down the track without any breaking effect whatsoever. So next time someone tells you that you should run on your toes you should ignore them!

You should always try and keep on the balls of your feet.

2. Your foot action should be upwards and downwards. You should apply force directly on the ground using the balls of your feet. Applying force on the ground pushes your body upwards and forwards. You shouldn’t just be gliding across the track. Applying the proper force needed on the track will allow your body to run the faster times that you are expecting.

So remember that your heels shouldn’t land first while sprinting down the track. Always make sure that your balls of your feet are landing first so that you are not creating any breaking effect while sprinting.

Also make sure that you are applying force onto the track using the balls of your feet so that your body will be projected upwards and forwards. Hopefully these tips will be of assistance to you so that you can run faster times on the track.

Why Should You Buy Toothpaste "Made In The U.S.A?"

August 31st, 2010 by Thomas Tillman

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In the news recently, there have been warnings about toothpaste manufactured in China that contains a poisonous ingredient that is usually found in automobile radiator coolant. Rather than focus on the negative aspects of this news, and the poor standards used in manufacturing and exporting maintained in other countries, it may be a really good time to reflect on the standards that the American manufacturer maintains in the production of personal care products that we have, until this time, taken for granted.

A consumer gives little thought when they pick up their toothpaste in the morning as to the safety of the ingredients or packaging that goes into producing that tube. We expect that there will be protections for us as consumers against shoddy manufacturing practices, but usually little is known about the process.

The first step a manufacturer goes through is the state and local licensing of the laboratory or facility where the product is to be made. Facilities are inspected to make sure that the building and areas are clean and adequate for the process that is proposed, and that all systems are sanitary. There are OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) safety standards with which the facility must comply, which include having safety data sheets on file for every chemical or ingredient used in every product manufactured or used for cleaning on the grounds of the facility.

State and local laws including wages, insurance and safety standards cover employees. Lab workers are required to wear disposable paper head covering at all times, and in the formulating areas, protective clothing such as lab coats are worn. Workers in other countries often work in unsanitary and abysmal working conditions and are paid a miserable wage.

Then there are the labeling standards set forth by the FDA. When a new product is being developed to bring onto the market for over the counter sale, the label must be in compliance with FDA regulations. The proposed product label is sent to a lawyer that specializes in FDA regulations. They check to make sure that there are no false health claims on the label, and that each and every ingredient is on a list issued by the FDA as GRAS (generally regarded as safe). This is a list of ingredients that include chemicals, botanical and inert ingredients that have been tested and have been cleared as being safe for consumers to use. The approved label is sent back to the manufacturing facility. Each product must have an approved label on file in the manufacturing facility where it is manufactured. Aside from the labeling considerations, the FDA also inspects the manufacturing facilities. Among the things they inspect are the water systems. For example, if purified water is used in products, there must be an exact log on file of the tests that were done on the water when the manufacturing process on a particular product begun, and again, at the end of that product run. There must also be a log of batches or lots of each product and the date of the manufacture. Each product must have a lot number and expiration date stamped or crimped onto the product. When a product such as toothpaste is finished, it is tested for quality and purity. It must then remain in quarantine for several days, and then retested for bacterial contamination before it is released from the manufacturing laboratory for distribution.

When a comparison is made between the high standards that must be met by the American manufacturer of toothpaste and a product made in a country with little or no oversight on manufacturing, ingredients or the facilities in which they are produced, it makes little sense NOT to buy toothpaste proudly “Made in the USA.”
